Some Abilities provide immunity to a move type or specific effect. When activated, they may also restore HP, raise a stat, or grant another benefit. This can change a matchup completely because a Pokémon that appears weak to a type may safely switch into it with the right Ability. Not all immunities are obvious from typing, so checking an opponent’s possible Abilities is important in competitive battles. Some moves ignore Abilities, and some abilities can be suppressed or bypassed. Treat Ability-based immunities as a strategic tool, but confirm the Pokémon actually has that Ability before relying on it.
