Move tutors are NPCs or systems that teach certain moves outside the normal level-up and TM methods. Their availability differs by game and may require currency, items, battle points, special materials, or story progress. Tutor moves can give a Pokémon valuable coverage or utility that it cannot obtain otherwise. In newer games, tutors may be replaced by crafting, reminders, records, or other move-learning systems. Before planning a moveset, check which moves are legal in the game and whether the Pokémon can still learn them after evolution or transfer. Move sources are generation-specific.
