A Nature usually increases one non-HP stat by ten percent and decreases another non-HP stat by ten percent. For example, a Nature can raise Attack while lowering Special Attack, or raise Speed while lowering Defense. Five neutral Natures do not change stats. Natures matter most when a Pokémon has a clear role: physical attackers commonly prefer a Nature that supports Attack, while special attackers commonly prefer one that supports Special Attack. The best Nature depends on the moves, Ability, Speed goals, and battle format. In many modern games, special items or mechanics can change the effective stat Nature without changing the original Nature shown on the summary screen.
