Pivot moves deal damage or create an effect and then switch the user out, allowing the trainer to bring in a teammate safely. They are useful for maintaining momentum, scouting an opponent’s response, and placing a fragile attacker on the field without a hard switch. The exact moves and type interactions vary by game, and some pivot moves fail or behave differently against certain effects. A pivot move is strongest when the team has good follow-up options and can punish the opponent’s likely switch. It is not always best to pivot; sometimes staying in and taking a knockout is more valuable.
