Move locking happens when a Pokémon is restricted to a move, often because of a Choice item, a repeating move effect, an opponent’s pressure, or a special battle condition. The restriction can be powerful when the selected move is safe, but dangerous if the opponent has an immunity, resistance, or setup opportunity. To use a Choice item well, predict likely switches and keep a pivot or switch plan ready. To exploit an opponent’s lock, bring in a Pokémon that resists or is immune to the move. Exact locking effects differ by generation, so read the item or move description in your game.
