Different Poké Balls apply different catch-rate modifiers. A standard Poké Ball is the basic option, while Great and Ultra Balls generally improve the chance. Many special balls work best in particular circumstances, such as at night, on a first turn, after many turns, in water, or against a Pokémon of a certain level. The target’s remaining HP, status condition, species catch rate, and game-specific mechanics also matter. For difficult encounters, lower the target’s HP safely and inflict a useful status before using an appropriate ball. Save before rare encounters when the game allows it, and avoid moves that can accidentally knock out the target.
