Most turns are decided by move priority first and Speed second. A move with higher priority can act before a faster opponent using a normal-priority move. Examples of priority moves often include quick attacks, protection moves, or moves designed to finish weakened targets. When both moves have the same priority, Speed usually decides the order, with a random tie-breaker if Speed is equal. Abilities, items, Trick Room, and special move effects can also alter turn order. Priority is valuable for revenge knocking out fast opponents, but many priority moves have low power or restricted conditions.
