A team role describes the job a Pokémon performs rather than only its type or strength. A sweeper aims to deal damage quickly, often after receiving a boost or support. A wall absorbs attacks and disrupts opponents through recovery, status, or defensive typing. Support Pokémon may set hazards, remove hazards, provide speed control, screens, healing, weather, or safe switches. Many Pokémon can fill more than one role depending on their moveset and item. A balanced team usually needs answers to common threats, not simply six powerful attackers. Choose roles that work together and avoid stacking the same weaknesses.
