Protect is a defensive move that usually blocks most attacks for one turn. It is especially common in Doubles because it lets a Pokémon avoid double targeting while its partner acts, stalls weather or field-effect turns, scouts an opponent’s choice, and protects against priority. Repeated use normally has a lower success chance, so it cannot be relied on every turn. Protect is not always necessary in Singles, but it can still help with scouting, stalling poison or recovery, and managing choice-locked opponents. Some moves and effects can bypass or punish Protect, so use it with timing rather than automatically.
